Giving in India is not something that is done overtly–it is done as part of the daily routine. ‘It blesseth him that gives and him that receives’ so said Shakespeare. How true it is of a good deed done to the society! SRM Public School, Nandhivaram, Guduvanchery, celebrated the ‘Joy of Giving’ week on 23rd December 2017.
During the Joy of Giving Week, variety of Stationery Materials, Toys, Clothes and Essential Food Grains were collected from the students as well as the teachers and donated to a well-known orphanage, The Indian Gospel Mission, Charitable Organisation, Guduvanchery, that works for the uplift of poor children. It was an effort to bring a smile on their faces.
Joy of sharing week was an opportunity for our students to learn, explore and share various things with their peers, friends in the school as well to share with the elderly people at home or in the neighbourhood. This is a small effort on our part to inculcate the value of sharing among our children!
Finally the focus of the word ‘giving’ is all about the giver. The act of giving is not about donation, charity or philanthropy. It is about sharing, empathising, getting involved and communicating.
